Douglas Barrie’s Perfect XI

I think I took five minutes to choose my all time XI. The only
positions it took me longer to think about were one of the central
defender slots and a midfielder slot (because I had various ideas in
my mind). There’s a lot of quality going about just now, but I’ve
stuck in some players who are likely to be in everyone else’s
selections but also a few surprises given that I’m playing a 4-3-3
(the Barcelona way).

The Luka Modric saga finally came to a close after the Croatian playmaker finalised his move to Spanish La Liga Champions Real Madrid from Spurs for a reported £33 million. However, I want to look at this transfer in more detail; was he worth the money, what role will he play at Madrid (presuming he gets a game) and how will Tottenham cope without him. I’ve chosen my perfect XI based on the players and moments that made me love the game. The World Cup France 1998 turned a passing interest into an unbridled love affair that has only grown ever since. The footballing superstars of the early 2000’s and onwards also played a big part in shaping this team. So, with that in mind you can expect a fairly modern lineup and this XI is modelled on a diamond formation. Here is my perfect team.

I haven’t lived in a time where I’ve been able to see most of the players who fall underthe category of ‘Footballs Greatest’ – so this was a tough thing for me to do. As I had to base a lot of it on what I’ve heard, read or the small clips I have seen. There will be one or two modern players in there, who will look out of place, but, there’s good reasoning! There are many self proclaimed ‘in the know’ agents on Twitter, the social medium in which news seems to be leaked before anyone else knows, and they seem to have got another Arsenal signing correct in the form of Alex Song, just days after Robin Van Persie switched allegiances. Continue reading

After the Scotland u19 and u21s team both lost on Tuesday, the pressure was on the main squad to deliver some kind of national pride.
That they did as Scotland brushed the horrible defeat to USA off their backs with a 3-1 win over Australia .
After a freak set of events the Socceroos took the lead through a phenomenal strike by Bresciano gave the visitors the lead. The goal itself was a clear hit and could not be contested. The lead to the goal was a different matter.
