Top Ten Goalkeepers In The World

1. Iker Casillas

The Real Madrid stopper has been a first team regular since he was a teenager, his outstanding reflexes and top class shot stopping has helped his establish himself as one of, if not the best goalkeeper in the world.

Star Rating 5/5

2. Gianluigi Buffon

The Juventus man, still the most expensive goalkeeper in the world after his move from Parma. Has a solid reputation and plays a great game, aside from one or two weaknesses, that can mostly be put down to his advancing years. He is pushing Casillas for top spot.

Star Rating 5/5

3. Victor Valdes

The Barcelona keeper is a player with a small degree of bad luck to his name. Under any other circumstances he would no doubt be his countries number one. Unfortunately he is in his prime fighting with Casillas for that spot. Still Victor Valdes is a world class goalkeeper.

Star Rating 4/5

4. Joe Hart

Now some people may consider me to be wrong or bias here, but Joe Hart is worthy of number 4 spot in my opinion. A brilliant shot stopper and agile he is one of England’s best ever keepers. Still needs to improve his game but he has plenty of time to grow.

Star Rating 4/5

5. Manuel Neuer

Now this was tough, Manuel Neuer is an outstanding goalkeeper, and sure to be up where Casillas is now. Once he masters consistency. He is arguably already worthy of the number three or maybe two spot on this list. For me however his consistency has let him down.

Star Rating 4/5

6. Petr Cech

Another difficult one, a player that possesses possibly the best agility in the world, yet has become horribly inconsistent in recent years. I have my doubts as to how long he can hold onto his spot in the Chelsea first team. Again some will disagree with me but that is what football is about, right?

7. Julio Cesar

The Inter Milan stopper is up with Buffon as one of the best keepers in Serie A,

Being prone to mistakes has pushed him down this list although none can argue with his ability. Given that Brazil are not famed for their goalkeepers Julio Cesar has show that Brazil can produce them albeit sporadically.

Star Rating 3/5

8. Pepe Reina

Yet another casualty of the outstanding performances of Casillas, Pepe Reina is still one of the top goalkeepers. Constantly linked with big clubs he has amazing reflexes that contribute to some of the best performances in the Premier League.

Star Rating 3/5

9. Hugo Lloris

French captain Lloris is one that will be on lists like these for a long time. He possesses a brilliant reach and agility that can make strikers scream, Lloris will undoubtedly be linked with a big money move yet again this season.

Star Rating 3/5

10. Igor Akinfeev

By far the hardest decision was to leave out Samir Handanovic. But I believe Akinfeev edges him out, just. Akinfeev is an outstanding keeper, yet was blighted by a major problem. He conceded far too many goals through his legs, to solve this he adapted his natural game and immediately he had made a difference. It is this ability to adapt the natural instinct aspect of his game (the hardest thing to change) that pushed him ahead of Handanovic.

Star Rating 3/5

Now a mention for the goalkeeper that missed out, Samir Handanovic is the number one stopper for Slovenia, Conceding just 4 goals from 10 matches at the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers, Handanovic displayed his agility and Penalty saving ability. This would have contributed to his move from Udinese to Inter Milan in July 2012.

Please leave your thoughts and comments for me. Even if you feel the need to vent some disappointment that I left someone out or you disagree with me entirely.

Once again thank you for reading.
