Kris Boyd found the net against LA Galaxy

Recap after Week #6

Sporting Kansas City solidified its claim as the team to beat this season by defeating Real Salt Lake 1-0. The victory left Sporting Kansas City without a blemish in six games. The lads from the heartland have only conceded 1 goal this season and opponents are only averaging a shot on goal per game against their stingy defense.

The story is different in New York where the Red Bulls are relying on outscoring their opponents. Kenny Cooper continued his impressive run with a goal in the fifth minute in RBNY’s 2-2 draw against San Jose. Cooper, who was cast aside after struggling last year with the Portland Timbers, is tied with Thierry Henry and San Jose’s Chris Wondolowski for the league lead in goals with seven apiece.

In a battle of two teams at the bottom of the Western Conference table, the LA Galaxy got late goals from Juninho and David Beckham to down the Portland Timbers 3-1 in LA. Former Rangers hitman Kris Boyd notched his third goal in a losing effort. The Timbers have now dropped four straight heading into Saturday’s match against Sporting Kansas City.

The Timbers are in a better position than Toronto FC. The team from Ontario has lost its first five matches, scoring just 2 goals and conceding 10. This time they feel to Chivas USA 1-0. It was the second win in a row for the Goats.

Philadelphia picked up its first win of the campaign, defeating the Columbus Crew 1-0. In Chicago, the host Fire ended in a 1-1 draw with the Houston Dynamo in a game that was called off in the 70th minute due to a lightning storm.
