Toronto Forwad Ryan Johnson enjoying a goal against Galaxy

Tonight has seen Toronto FC become the first ever Canadian team to move into the semi finals of the Concacaf Champions League.
A 4-3 aggregate win and a huge win for the  club mean they will face Santos Laguna in the semis . Although a lot of the talk will be focussed around the LAck of Galaxy (terrible joke, sorry). This Galaxy side were favourites to move on in the competition and a slim chance was given to the away side after their 2-2 home draw in the first leg gave Galaxy 2 vital away goals meaning a win was necessary. A win at the Home Depot Center is not an easy task.

Galaxy are unprepared and lacking definition

The Galaxy were poor. Taking nothing away from Ryan Johnson’s great performance, or Torsten Frings solid game , or the wonderful keeping of Kocic , who denied Keane twice with two fantastic saves. However, this Galaxy side should have won tonight. So this all prompts the question ‘why?’ .
The Los Angeles side  have many key individuals. Beckham, Keane, Donovan, Magee etc etc. The problem being , that while the rest of the squad are busy with pre-season, the likes of Keane and Donovan and Beckham in previous years are on loan in the Premiership or the Serie A. Yes, they are keeping their fitness up and if they can manage an extra months playing time then good for them. In my opinion it shows a great disrespect to their club and a real lack of authority at these clubs that they allow their players to travel abroad instead of prepare for the new season. It was obvious tonight when on the attack, the likes of Keane and Donovan were making bad decisions and errors and there was slack passing throughout that this has all come from when the squad are preparing tactics and drills, Keane is

Keane was scoring for Villa instead of preparing with Galaxy

over playing For Aston Villa on the other side of the world.
Maybe Galaxy will have learned their lesson and will sort out this horrible start to the season, but regardless if they do or not – one thing is clear- they have to stop allowing key players who will have so much effect on others in pre season to go on loan.
Look at the best players in the world, or even any professional who is successful . They all have a story about some senior player or big name they once trained with or played with in pre season and it helped them tremendously.
The MLS is growing in popularity, strength and quality and LA need to stop allowing their stars going abroad for a pay cheque in the off season and they need them to stay home and train and work with the team. The word ‘crisis’ is too easy to throw into the mix but there is certainly a big problem and it may be catastrophic to their season.
